GIS Developer/Analyst
FLSA: Exempt
Pay: Commensurate with experience
General Position Summary:
The GIS Developer/Analyst develops and maintains GIS applications, and provides GIS technical and analytical support for our natural resource clients.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
- Custom GIS programming and developing applications for ArcPad, primarily utilizing Visual Basic Script.
- Demonstrates proficiency in GIS and GPS software/hardware products (ArcGIS 9.1 or above, Trimble, GeoXT, Pathfinder) in order to train others in techniques.
- Intermediate spatial modeling and visualization.
- Database and geodatabase design and development.
- Provides quality control review of project deliverables within budget and on time.
Secondary Functions:
- Program/maintain GIS interface in MB&G software using VB, .Net and C++.
- Participates in business development activities, including proposal and marketing efforts. Actively promotes MB&G as a premier provider of natural resource consulting services.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- This position is not supervisory.

- Contacts are within the company, business contacts and with our clients.
Job Skills:
- Ability to program in VBA, VB, .Net and/or C++.
- Custom application development for ArcPad on Trimble GeoXT and other handheld devices.
- Proficiency with the ESRI suite of GIS software, specifically ArcGIS/ArcINFO.
- Proficiency with Python Scripting and ModelBuilder in ArcGIS.
- Proficiency with GPS data collections and post-processing.
- Proficiency with Access.
- Solid understanding and practice of spatial concepts and mapping techniques.
- Understanding and practice of good spatial data and file management.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
- Team player with the ability to operate independently under minimal supervision.
- Responsive and client service oriented.
- Ability to adapt to frequent changes/interruptions.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, team-oriented individual.
Education and/or Experience:
- B.A./B.S. in Geography, Forestry, Geology, Planning, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience with ArcGIS/ArcInfo GIS software and geoprocessing tools or 2 years experience with a Masters Degree in related field.
- Demonstrated experience in developing handheld applications for ArcPad.
- Preference will be given to candidates with additional experience in the following areas: LiDAR data applications, CAD to GIS conversion process, developing ArcObjects based applications, and/or ArcGIS Server and SDE experience.
Job Conditions:
Work is performed in our Portland, Oregon, headquarters office. Extensive computer use, physical ability to operate a telephone, computer and sit for extended periods of time, occasionally may lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
