Fisheries and Wildlife Biology
Consulting work in fisheries and wildlife biology is driven by environmental
regulations. Consultants must be able to understand and communicate concepts
of basic biology, population biology and community ecology, and ecosystem
processes to be able to assess project impacts, and make recommendations
to clients.
MB&G fisheries and wildlife biologists have experience in the following
areas:
- Aquatic and terrestrial habitat surveys
- Species surveys
- Stream and riparian restoration projects
- Impact assessment and habitat loss assessments
- Data analysis
- Mitigation planning
- Agency consultation and regulatory permitting
Plant and Range Ecology
MB&G's botanical resource staff have completed surveys for a variety
of rare plants in the Pacific Northwest.
Forestry
MB&G biologists work with foresters on a daily basis to facilitate
project permitting and approvals, and also to minimize impacts to fish,
wildlife, and habitat. Biologists work with foresters on logging plans,
timber harvest plans, Biological Evaluations, and Biological Assessments.
As a consequence, harvesting can be conducted in a manner more sensitive
to resources, and conservation measures can be designed that are sensitive
to the logistical constraints of logging and other forest management activities.
Aquatic Ecology
MB&G biologists understand the importance of water quality, riparian,
and in-stream habitat to fish and other animals living in our aquatic
environments. We have conducted many surveys for aquatic insects and amphibians.
Our biologists have used the Environmental Protection Agency’s Rapid
Bioassessment Protocol and the various adaptations designed by state
biologists.
Wetland Science
MB&G Environmental Services staff include certified wetland delineators
and Professional Wetland Scientists (SWS certification) who can perform
all aspects of wetland delineation, mitigation, and permitting. Our staff
has successfully completed dozens of wetland delineations and mitigation
design projects.
