MB&G Receives Business Achievement Award from National Publication, Environmental Business Journal

The Environmental Business Journal has selected a MB&G project for their 2017 Business Achievement Awards

Environmental Business Journal® (EBJ), a research publication which provides high-value strategic business intelligence to the environmental industry, has honored MB&G with a 2017 Business Achievement Award for Natural Resources Management.

MB&G’s Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Full-Delivery Turnkey Mitigation for Yaquina Basin US 20 Corridor Improvements Project received a Project of Merit Award for “innovative project designs, technology applications, new practice areas, social contributions and industry leadership in 2017,” from EBJ. The EBJ Business Achievement Awards are determined by a committee of EBJ’s staff and editorial advisory board members who review essay nominations.

MB&G’s landmark project involved a new delivery approach with ODOT’s first consultant-delivered, turnkey contract. MB&G led this ‘cradle-to-grave’ project by managing landowner coordination, real estate appraisals and transactions, regulatory compliance, design, construction, and stewardship for two mitigation sites in Oregon’s Yaquina River Basin. This project was also recognized the American Council for Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Oregon at their annual Engineering Excellence awards banquet on January 17, 2018 with an Honor Award for MB&G and teaming partner Otak, Inc..

Big Elk Creek site wetlands and tidally-influenced floodplain connections were optimized through extensive hydrological monitoring and modeling. Based on surface and groundwater data collection.

Big Elk Creek site wetlands and tidally-influenced floodplain connections were optimized through extensive hydrological monitoring and modeling. Based on surface and groundwater data collection.

The project scope included removal of a priority fish passage barrier, stream restoration, establishment of permanent riparian buffers through deed restrictions, and long-term stewardship of approximately 70 acres. At the Big Elk Creek site, we installed three streambank breaches to connect the creek with its floodplain, creating 1.5 acres of wetland. At the Bull Creek site, we removed an undersized culvert to access 4 miles of high-quality salmonid habitat. In addition, MB&G facilitated a 52-acre land donation to the U.S Forest Service to improve terrestrial, riparian, and aquatic habitat. The project was delivered on budget and met all schedule milestones for the critical fall 2016 opening of the new 5.5-mile segment of US20.
